Regans Julie

The Julidochromis regani, along with the J. marlieri, are the bruisers of the Julidochromis family. These fish have no problem claiming their space in the substrate of a tank. The regani have some beautiful coloration. Although they do well with most tank mates, these fish are highly aggressive towards fish of their own species. It’s typically recommended to keep only one pair of Julie’s in a tank unless the tank is extremely large.

The regani will typcially claim a twenty four square inch area on the bottom of the tank as it’s own. Midwater swimming tankmates are usually ignored, although other bottom dwellers may run into problems if they invade the regani’s territory. These fish are easy to keep and do well with weekly water changes.

These egg layers will usually lay large clutches of up to 300 eggs every six to eight weeks or lay small clusters of 12-20 eggs every seven to ten days. Juveniles are usually tolerated in the pairs territory until they reach about an inch in length.
